Masterpost: Apophenia Lux: Sam and Dean of Mars!
author: calamitycrow
artist: Wede_Fic
genre: gen, really
pairing: tiny John/Mary scene
rating: R (unnecessary violence and gratuitous oni)
word count: 28,000
disclaimer: Yes, this fic may resemble other fiction, either living or dead, and this kitty owes cookies to every writer from Mark Twain to Paul Féval.
warning number I: Contains excess amounts of Victorian science and sci fi pulp. Any resemblance to real science is unintentional and should be ignored. No apologies will be made for unexplainable kaiju, lumbering automatons, or anything that else that is mostly incomprehensible, but seemed like a good idea at the time.
warning II: This is SPN remixed into a steampunk fic. A funeral is being held for cannon this Saturday at St. Mary's in Ilchester, Maryland. Our sincere condolences go out Eric Kripke and the writers.
summary: When Sam's girlfriend Jessica goes missing, he decides to leave school and enlist the aid of his brother he hasn't seen in four years. Largely an excuse to stick the boys on Mars, and give Dean an airship.

Our History So Far:

One of the greatest explorers of Earth was Sir Blakeney. In 1819, he turned his attention to Central America, funding an expedition to search for and document Aztec cities long lost to the jungle. It took six long years and a great deal of his wealth, and his success was cut short by his untimely death.

His legacy was carried on by his adopted son, David, but in a way Sir Blakeney would never have dreamed of.

David was an Itzaj Indian, who used his father's vast fortune to fund his research into harnessing æther. In 1831, David was successful, and in 1833 used æther to fuel the first rocket ship. Finding the moon to be a cold and desolate rock, David set his sights on Mars. What David found there exceeded his wildest dreams.

The outer shell of the planet was a barren, red wasteland, but Mars was hollow!

Some race had long ago carved the deep Martian Channels, cleverly fitting them with glass and mirrors to bring sun into the hollow interior. Inside, on the planet's curving skin was a lush, green tropical world. But the real wonder was the discovery of aeridium, a metal that's lighter than air.

David and his small team of rocketeers found enormous islands of floating aeridium in the middle of the hollow planet, still carrying the remains of once-beautiful cities that must have been the pride of the Martians. Looking at their ruined beauty, David realized that he had found his people a homeworld, a place where they could flourish and build New Toltec.
